Our Approach and Methodology:

Our proven search approach will be tailored to successfully meet your organizations recruitment goals. The following describes the main ten phases we utilize in our executive recruitment.

previous
next
  • step-1

    Step 1. Detailed Analysis.

We evaluate your needs. We investigate the position, your mission, the aptitude requirements, position responsibilities, and your organizational structure and environment. In order to accomplish this, we aim to meet your hiring committee and/or additional hiring directors related to the open position. All acquired information properly equips our Executive Recruiter to make the best match for your organization.

    During the analysis, we will:

    • Conduct a detailed review to understand your organization’s specific needs, strategic plans, and unique culture.
    • Create job descriptions to ensure that the posted job search advertisements successfully attract qualified candidates.
    • Develop standardized screening criteria and interview questions to ensure an effective, equitable and compliant process.
  • Our recruitment model includes:

    • The identification of polished and experienced nonprofit candidates.
    • Access to nonprofit talent not available on job boards.
    • Opportunity announcements to our expansive internal database of nonprofit candidates.
    • Strategic exposure for your organization on an array of job search boards (but not limited to): nonprofitstaff.com, Chronicle of Philanthropy, Idealist, Execsearches, OpportunityKnocks, Executives Network, Netshare, RiteSite, The Ladders, Execunet, Indeed, Simply Hired, Monster + HotJobs, Craigslist, LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, list serves, networks, university alumni associations, university career linking centers, networking meetings, and local forums.
    • Timely delivery of mission-driven executive candidates.
    • A logical answer to your hiring needs.
    • Guaranteed talent worthy of your time and energy.

    Step 2. Recruiting.

Scion Executive Search perpetually “casts a wide net” in networking and recruiting our elite C-level executives across the nation and the globe. For all executive searches, we conduct research to identify qualified potential candidates, utilize our robust database of talented executive leaders, strategically place advertisements, network, and recruit to identify the exact match for your organization’s culture. We will then provide you with material about the entire pool of candidates.

Our recruiting includes a concerted effort to reach a diverse cross-section of qualified candidates. Our firm prides itself on its high percentage of diverse candidate placements! Because many of the candidates we identify are passive, we always protect confidentiality to retain the highest integrity throughout the search.

  • Step 3. Networking.

Scion Executive Search utilizes expert networking techniques to find its exceptional candidates. During this phase, Scion Executive Search works closely with you as a partner to help select and identify appropriate prospective industries, nonprofit leaders, boards, associations, professional organizations, and nonprofits that are appropriate to discreetly contact and network with.

Throughout this process, applicable background information, resumes, applications, portfolios are collected. Your organization’s name will only be used when appropriate, and when approved by your leadership. Conversely, potential candidate information is also held confidential. In our experience it is best to be cautious and utilize a strategic planned networking approach.
    step-2

  • Step 4. Screening.

    step-4-1
All candidates are rigorously phone screened and methodically interviewed in person addressing the specified requirements for each executive position we lead. Our detailed process allows us to delve deep into each prospective candidate’s background, career history, goals, motivations, career plans, and accomplishments, to efficiently judge their abilities and prospective effectiveness.

Final candidates are additionally screened in stage nine (9) including their professional references, criminal, educational, financial, media, and civil litigation checks.

    step-4

  • Step 5. Evaluation.

    step-5
The goal of screening and preliminary interviews is to make initial judgments that can be tested in further interviews, interactions, and reference checking.

We always seek an ideal “match” that aligns the candidates past experience, interests, and prowess, to the likely challenges and responsibilities of the new role.

We base our evaluations on the job description and established board member and key stakeholder’s objectives.

  • Step 6. Candidate Presentations.

    step-6

Upon completion of our Analysis, Recruitment, Networking, Screening, and Evaluation stages, we provide detailed profiles of the most qualified semi-final candidates. Scion Candidate Profiles offer factual insight into the candidates’ specific backgrounds, and include:

    1. Their current salary level
    2. Salary expectations
    3. Employment highlights from past employers
    4. Details on their specific availability to start a new position
    5. Facts evidencing the employment match.
  • Step 7. Client Interviews.

    step-7
All of the administrative details for the executive search are included in our service.

This includes finalizing a process with the board for interviews, coordinating candidate participation, scheduling phone calls, meetings, and offering any advice on travel arrangements.

At all times our staff is available to you as a resource and to ensure a smooth process.

  • Step 8. Final Candidate Selection.

    step-8
We offer the final candidate pool to your search committee. Our Executive Recruiters will assist in debriefing your board (following the in-person organizational interviews) and always stand ready to identify additional candidates, if necessary.

Environment, work culture, candidate’s personality, goals, commitment level, personal devotion to your organization’s mission, career potential, staying power, growth aspects, compensation goals, candidate’s track record, geography, and any other possible information is communicated.

  • Step 9. Final Reference Checking.

    step-9
After interviews take place with your executive staff members and board, additional in-depth reference checking is conducted on candidates of prospective final interest. Traditionally this is conducted on the top finalists. While completing this portion of the process, we additionally ensure quality by spending time with our candidates, and conducting meticulous professional and personal references.

This process includes: professional references, criminal, educational, financial, media, and civil litigation checks. In the event politically sensitive or potentially embarrassing issues arise from the candidate’s background, Scion Executive Search stands ready to conduct in-depth interviews with principal parties to clarify the event and clearly present to the board a description of the occurrences.

  • Step 10. Final Offer.

    step-10
After your search committee feels 100% confident in the candidate selection we assist your organization in extending a tactful final offer, and notifying unsuccessful applicants of the hiring decision.

To aid in the final hiring process Scion Executive Search offers detailed candidate salary history and requisite information for your review. Though every search can be slightly different, our experts will consult you in making an educated decision on the best salary to offer to retain the candidate, along with meeting your budget constraints.

Close. After every executive search we conduct, we perform a client satisfaction survey (CSS). Thus, we actively seek feedback from our clients to continually improve our services.
